THE WEEKEND JAM SESSION

So Saturday was the day me and my good friend Patrick decided
to
start the foundation of our new project/band along the vein of
classic
Pink Floyd but with a more heavier edge whilst honoring the
music of Floyd.
We're not a cover/tribute band, just influenced
by the earlier Floyd records!

(Matt & Pat gettin' ready...)

We headed down to Garden 'Garbage' Grove to Sound Arena
Rehearsal
Studios (formerly Trojan Studios) to jam for a good 3+ hours
on ideas
Pat had lined up inside his head. The thing with Trojan, I've practically
rehearsed/jammed in every room over the 15+ years I've been active as
a drummer as well as
bands I used to roadie with before that.
So the place was still 'home' for me
in terms of territory,
and I missed the place!! I even saw Katon from Hirax hanging out.

(Matt & Pat jammin' out a song)

This was the 2nd time I used my kit outside of it's protective room known
also as the 'office' at home, so I was a bit worried how it would sound in a studio
rather than just a mute tune when trying to tune a drum without pissing off my
neighbors and freaking the cats out. Other than 1 drum (the 10" tom) having a
slight ring when hit, everything else sounded pretty good!
Pat was especially impressed with the
way the kit sounded
and I was stoked as well!! It's been a whole year since
I started the 'Drum Resurrection' project and it was
great to see all the hard work really pay off!

(Pat Martinez on the Guitar)

We jammed on some good ideas for songs, and we both mutually
agreed that we would need to acquire a bassist as well as a keyboard
player to enhance the songs in question. I've been a Floyd fan since
I can remember as a kid, and I'm so used to playing harder stuff; so I'm
looking forward to the challenge of playing drums, not just blast-beats
and typical thrash drumming! Besides, today's music is such a joke!!
Everyone is sounding the exact same way and doing the exact same thing
as many of the bands that are a dime-a-dozen!!

Don't get me wrong: I love my hardcore, my metal, my grind, my techno...
But I want to play what I feel in my heart that I know is music!
I want to be a part of of something that people will listen to and look
at me and go "You play that?!"..."Yup! I play this now!"
Something I can actually invite my Mom to come and check out!!

(Matt BONES- Drums)

Funny: as we were leaving Trojan (I meant 'Sound Arena'!); I was looking over
the people hanging out outside and inside the lobby and it brought back some
memories as a young lad, and told Darcy about it how funny it was how
I used to be like that. It was a weird moment to reflect, she told me that
that nowadays I'm older, wiser, and have responsibilities.

Weird being grown up, and I turn 35 next month!! OUCH!!!
