REASONS FOR HATING THE GAME AND THE PLAYER!

Last week a promoter named Amy from “Glass Kitten Productions” put out a myspace bulletin seeking punk bands to play The Relax Bar in Hollywood on 12/5.
Being with Donkey Punch for the last 5-6 weeks, I was up for the challenge of playing a show with the new line-up! (Also welcoming Bernie Barrett on guitar)
I got GREED from Venice to play on the bill, but had yet to hear back from Amy regarding the other 3 bands to fill the bill.
So I did my best to try and fill the bill asking other bands if they’d be interested in playing the show to help out a promoter. After all…I was trying to HELP OUT.

I’ve been in the game of playing and working shows for 20+ years, so I know how to promote shows!
Back in the day; we glued flyers to the crosswalk poles, stapled flyers to telephone poles, dropped off stacks of flyers at various record stores, hit up clubs, you name it! Now with the internet, it’s not that hard to promote your event TO THE WORLD! Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, you name it!!!

Back to the story: I run about 5 different Myspace sites (along with Donkey Punch) and I promoted the FUCK out of the show! (See flyer below). I even heard that I ‘over-did’ it, but after all; I’m trying to get as many people to show up! I want a packed house for ALL THE BANDS!!!

So we get there and there’s a small amount of people there in the club. No biggie. We play our set @ 10, kicked ass on the songs and got a great response! We started breaking down our gear until... I see Amy (the promoter) talking with Oliver for a bit and I'm thinking nothing of it and then she comes up to me complaining that WE didn’t bring enough people to the show and that she was losing money because of the people who got in without paying, AND telling me that I didn’t promote the show enough.

WHAT? ARE YOU FOR REAL?

Was it MY fault that she didn’t have the BACK DOOR LOCKED or MONITORED where people were coming in and out at no charge? Was it MY fault that she didn’t promote the show as any logical promoter should? Was it MY fault that the show wasn’t packed wall to wall with people and that she would make a profit off this show?
When I got there, I put my wife as my “+1”, and then after the show (and the after words of Amy complaining) I gave Amy the $5 to cover her. (She stomped off like a brat after getting her $5.)

I made the mistake of answering the fake ad to begin with. The Relax Bar is Eddie Solis! GREAT promoter! He’s also a musician who fronts the band IT'S CASUAL and they play the Relax Bar all the time! My other band IRON MTN has played the Relax Bar many times WITH NO ISSUES WHAT-SO-EVER! No bullshit like what I experienced yesterday. (Reminds me of the old ‘pay-to-play’ days of LA)

As a whole, I felt the the band band exceeded each of our expectations for the show! It was great to see both Oliver and Brian stoked beyond words on how the show went! (It made me happy to feel that too!), just the bullshit with Amy (GKP) that ruined it for me.

I f**king hate people who take advantage of bands like that!
